Number nine in my Merckx stable.
2001 Team SC in Lotto Domo colors sporting nine speed Dura-Ace with Ritchey wheels and hubs. Overall this is a 9/10 for a bike of it’s vintage.
What’s the big deal?
The Team SC. Called ‘Our Favorite Bike ever‘ by commpetitivecyclist.com.
It went 1,2,3 in the 2001 Paris Roubaix
Took Richard Virenque for a 243KM flyer in the 2001 Paris-Tours.
Another Paris-Roubaix in 2002 by Johan Musseuw.
Virenque solos on Mt. Ventoux in the 2002 Tour on a Team SC.
in 2003 a Tour of Flanders / Paris-Roubaix double by Peter van Petegem again on the team SC
Carbon came along after that – but man what a run.
So, I have a fair amount of coin tied up in my nine bike Merckx collection. Given.
What other kind of collection allows you go to out and ride the VERY SAME tools that such storied events were recorded on?
I have the same bike Lance Armstrong won his world championship on. The same bike that carried Andy Hampsten over the gavia. The same bike that Peter van Petegem doubled the Tour of Flanders and the Paris-Roubaix on. They are not on a shelf. The are dirty and worn and I ride them all.
